Exploring the potential for both plant-based and cell-cultured jerky, I conducted a landscape analysis of plant-based jerky brands in early 2019. It's a quick easy read with clear brand takeaways.


I found that many brands appear un-savvy and unnecessarily rugged, a fake meat throwback to a simpler time, with quirky masculine undertones that pigeonhole the jerky consumer. Other brands come across as purely functional, a niche vegan product, lacking focus on flavor or experience.
